An interesting perspective on life in software development. Yes, if you intend to make a career in the profession you will need to keep updating your skills. But how is this different than in any other profession? Do you think the guys working on a GM assembly line 30 years ago are still using the same skills and procedures today? (if they are even still employed by GM). I imagine an insurance agent would tell you that his job is a lot different than it was 20 years ago. Adapting to new skills and new technology has been a necessity ever since the industrial revolution. We're not all farmers living off the land and doing things the same way our grandparents (and their grandparents) did.
